Movie actors who started in theatre

Bruce Willis started in Levi’s jeans commercial, but not all actors had this breakthrough, most of them began their journey in the theatre. No hilarious commercials left for us to make fun of, but you can still find some footage from plays on YouTube.

Robert Pattinson

Both Twilight actors Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson started acting in the amateur theatre. Pattinsons first real role was in the play “Guys and Dolls” but was playing just a Cuban dancer with no name. After that got his second as Lord Oakleigh in Cole Porter’s play “Anything Goes”. Actor got his big break when an agent scouted him and got him a part in “Tess of the D’Urbervilles” as a seducer Alec.

Andrew Garfield

Garfield is titled as one the hottest contemporary youngest actor. He starred with stars like Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan, also he is famous for acting one of the most beloved superheroes of all times – Spiderman.  But in 2004 nobody knew him. He started acting at Royal Manchester Exchange. Of course, it needed to be something romantic and sexy: he was Romeo in Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet”.

Lea Michele

Michele has a voice of an angel and a talent for show tunes, so it is not a surprise that actress can be versatile. Her career started in 1995 when she was just nine years old, yet she already appeared in the most popular musical “Les Misérables”, where all roles are hard to act. Another Broadway show she was in was called “Ragtime”. Now we all know her as star of the “Glee” show.

Kristen Bell

Don’t laugh but her debut role was dual-feature, and she acted as a tree and banana in “Raggedy Ann and Andy”. She had an appearance in “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” and, later on, the huge part of the whole 4 lines in “The Crucible” by Sussanna Wallcott.

Sarah Jessica Parker

Before she became Carrie from “Sex and the City”, this actress worked hard for her fame and climbed her way up from small roles to starring in a revival of “Annie”. Till finally she had her big break and managed to secure herself a solid place in the TV history.

Hugh Jackman

He is known as Wolverine, but we are all aware how actor likes to dance and sing because of the award for “The Boy from Oz”. Just before that, he was performing in musical theatre, had part in “Oklahoma” and, because of great performance, had been in “Les Miserables” which was adapted to Hollywood’s blue screen lovers.

Michelle Williams

Another young actress who got her success by dancing and singing. Her firsts roles were in her local Christian Youth Theater, plays like “Annie” and “Sound of Music”. Now, critics tend to hate her one day, and adore her the next, because of movie “Blue Valentine”. People talk that it is time for her to go back to the theatre and score a Tony award.

Natalie Portman

Do you remember little girl smoking on the big screen in “The Professional”? It was her. Before that big break, she was just a girl in Off Broadway musical Ruthless, travelled with “The Diary of Anne Frank” from city to city playing the main role of Annie Frank – an achievement in itself.
